Mantacc Stuart Agar Gel Transport Swab

Simplify the transportation of clinical samples with Mantacc Stuart Transport Swabs. The soft rayon tips of Mantacc swabs allow easy specimen collection while keeping microorganisms alive. The Stuart agar gel maintains viability of microorganisms with different oxygen requirements, including aerobic, microaerophilic and anaerobic bacteria. It is especially suitable for respiratory, urogenital and intestinal specimens where survival of anaerobes needs to be ensured.

Optimize anaerobic bacterial sample collection and transport:

  • The inert, non-toxic rayon tips maintain sample viability during transit to the lab.
  • Each batch undergoes performance testing with diverse aerobic and anaerobic pathogens, ensuring adequate recovery rates.
  • Lot numbers, expiration dates, and tamper-evident packaging provide complete traceability and sterility assurance.
  • The smooth, bubble-free 3mL gel preserves anaerobic organisms while preventing desiccation.
  • With no glass ampules to break, these swabs offer safer handling and consistent performance.

About Stuart Agar Gel

Mantacc Stuart agar gel transport medium is a non-nutritive medium designed to maintain the viability of microorganisms, especially fastidious anaerobes, during transport from the collection site to the laboratory. It contains the following key components:
  • Sodium glycerophosphate acts as a buffer to maintain the pH of the medium.
  • Sodium thioglycollate provides a reduced environment favorable for the survival of anaerobes.
  • Methylene blue serves as a redox indicator - the medium is initially colorless indicating a reduced state, and turns blue in the presence of oxygen.
  • Agar provides a semi-solid gel matrix to prevent desiccation of the specimen during transport.
  • Demineralized water is used as the solvent.
  • Calcium chloride helps maintain the permeability of the cell membranes of bacteria.

About Sampling Swab

In the transport system kit, we offer 93050P, a medical-grade PP handle and rayon fiber oropharyngeal swab for sampling:
  • Oropharyngeal polyester swabs for high volume mucus collection
  • Recommended for detecting respiratory viruses and bacterial infections
  • Safe, non-cytotoxic, and sterilized by EO sterilization process
  • Ergonomic, slender, and flexible handles for minimal patient discomfort

Instructions

【Expected Cultivation Experiment】
The bacterial strains used for quality control of Stuart Transport Medium include:
Streptococcus pyogenes (ATCC 19615):
- Aerobic gram-positive coccus
- Quality control requirement: Able to be isolated again after aerobic subculture for 24 hours
Bacteroides fragilis (ATCC 25285):
- Obligate anaerobe
- Quality control requirement: Able to be isolated again after aerobic subculture for 24 hours
Pseudomonas aeruginosa (ATCC 27853):
- Aerobic gram-negative bacillus with weak oxygen requirement
- Quality control requirement: Able to be isolated again after aerobic subculture for 24 hours
The rationale for choosing these 3 strains is to represent gram-positive cocci, gram-negative bacilli, and anaerobes with different oxygen requirements, covering the typical application range of the medium comprehensively as appropriate quality control strains.
